The Vision
Inspired by similar offerings in Europe and North America including the Trans Euro Trail (TET) and the Trans Quebec Trail (TQT), and as the original founder of TAAT, Joao (Joni) had a vision of showcasing the awe-inspiring tracks and landscapes of the Australian outback for the adventure bike community.
Over time as Joni recruited others who shared in his vision, The Australian Adventure Trail (TAAT) was born with the intention to:
- Develop a curated adventure trail for local and international ADV riders to experience the vast landscapes, iconic tracks and destinations, and the welcoming communities that Australia has to offer.
- Provide a trail that can challenge riders by offering some of the most remote and technically difficult tracks Australia has to offer. But also offering more manageable sections that showcase the natural beauty and wonders of the Australian outback without testing a rider’s limits.
- Build a stronger ADV community and advocate for their interests by promoting and supporting aligned causes and projects.
While still in its infancy, TAAT’s vision is supported by a motivated and effective team, an engaged community, and a network of organisations that combined, will see this vision become a reality.
The Trail
With the Victorian sections complete and other state’s sections coming online as they are available, TAAT is a work in progress and relies on the support of volunteers and the broader ADV community for its development.
Spanning a distance of approximately 27,000 kilometres, the TAAT (The Australian Adventure Trail) is not only a remote adventure, but also one of the most scenic and diverse adventure trails in the world. The trail will take you through some of the most iconic and picturesque locations across Australia, including Victoria’s high mountains, the deserts of NSW, WA, SA and NT, the tropical regions of far North Queensland, and the stunningly remote wilderness of Tasmania.
The Founders
The Volunteers
TAAT is made possible through the hard work and support of its volunteers. These passionate and dedicated ADV riders bring local knowledge and experience to their roles as Linesmen and Ambassadors, playing a key role in the curation of the trail, and engagement with the ADV community.
Linesmen
TAAT Linesmen are responsible for the curation of their local section of trail, keeping the community up to date on local track conditions, points of interest, the best campsites, accommodation, pubs, cafes and tourist attractions.
They are also the first point of contact for each section. When a rider provides feedback or asks for advice on a section, it’s the section’s Linesman that will respond, addressing issues as they arise and updating the community on important information as required.
Our Linesmen are the grease that keeps the TAAT wheels rolling, they are our community leaders and our source of local knowledge. Think of them as the trusted mate you can rely on for the right advice when venturing into unknown territory.
Ambassadors
TAAT Ambassadors are responsible for supporting and coordinating our Linesmen, and representing larger regions (made up of multiple sections) the trail passes through, and ensuring continuity between sections and broader regions.
Ambassadors play a critical role in ensuring Linesmen have all the support they need, information in the TAAT App is up to date and accurate, and the rider experience is the best it can be. They are also a point of contact for regional TAAT partners – the businesses and community organisations that partner with TAAT to help fund and support the trail.
